ABOUT "SATOMORI STAY"

“Satomori” refers to those who protect the culture and history of

the sato —the village— and carry it forward into the future.

Across two millennia,

this village has remained rich in culture

because there have always been people

who have safeguarded it, passed it on,

and quietly kept its practices alive

in their daily lives.

Cradled by the mountains of Nara,

this rural way of life still holds a spirit

that can be seen as an origin of not only Nara’s culture,

but of Japanese culture itself

—alive here, gently and enduringly.

At SATOMORI STAY,

we invite you on a journey

where you spend time with villagers, experience the seasons,

touch the soil, and come to know the village

—a journey that guides you

from being a “traveler” to becoming a “Satomori.”

Experiences that change with the seasons

We’ve gradually drifted away from the soil in our daily lives.

With new technologies and endless conveniences,
we can easily get food made by someone, somewhere in the world—
without ever using our own hands.

Through the experiences at SATOMORI STAY,
we hope you can reconnect with the link between living and eating
by touching the soil and meeting the people who grow your food.

The people of Yamazoe may seem earnest and a little shy at first,
but they are warm, kind, and love to chat.
They are genuinely looking forward to welcoming you.
