Kominka are traditional Japanese houses that are at least one century old. In Ojika seven kominka got remodeled into a vacation rental that visitors can stay in. It is an amazing lodging option for those who appreciate the beauty of Japanese traditional architecture, the luxury of modern comfort, as well as the privacy of one's own home.

Kominka Nichigetsuan, Hoshu and Sakishoji are located in Fuefuki: the liveliest area of the island. Here you can find all the shops and restaurants, as well as many historical sights, such as the former residence of Oda family (now Museum of History and Folklore): historically one of the wealthiest families on the island that rose to prominence through whailing. Explore the charming streets of the neighboring fishing town, where locals will greet you with a warm smile and a friendly chat.

In the northern part of Ojika Island, in a peaceful Yanagi village, surrounded by vast rice fields and cow pastures, you will find Ichiean, Ichigoan and Oyake. These kominka are perfect for guests who want to escape the hustle and bustle and surround themselves with nature. The picturesque Goryo and Kakinohama beaches are 10-15 minutes away on foot.

The discount varies depending on the season with guests staying for six nights or longer during spring, autumn and winter seasons receiving up to 60% OFF!

A Homely Cooking Class at Kominka

Our kominka guests can experience the local food culture in the comfort of their own home. Have a local 'okaasan' ('mother' in Japanese) come over to your kominka and help you prepare a delicious meal full of staple dishes from Ojika Island. It's a great opportunity to broaden your culinary horizons as well as to befriend a local.

Dinner Preparation Time 4:30 PM～6 PM

The preparation time is around one hour and once the meal is ready you will be left to enjoy your meal in peace with your family and friends.
