VILLA MINAWA併設の薪サウナ 「MURO」 は、火と蒸気に満たされた「室（むろ）」を現代に再生した沈黙と熱の空間。暗闇と薪の香り、揺れる炎に包まれ、思考がほどけ、ただ「在る」ことへ立ち返る深いひとときを体験できます。

サウナの後には、島の土で築かれたアースバッグ工法による水風呂へ。地形と一体化したその器が、焼かれた身体をまるごと包みこむように癒してくれます。

冬季限定のクロアナゴウをつかった大島の郷土料理「とうへい鍋」。民宿『つわせ』でご堪能いただけます。

Surrounded by the Genkai Sea, the island is blessed not only with abundant seafood, but also with vegetables and citrus fruits grown in its fields and satoyama hills.

You can feel the strength and purity of the ingredients themselves.
Menus change with the seasons and the day’s catch, which is part of what makes dining on Oshima so special.Please note that there are very few restaurants you can enter casually at night.

About Beverages

Please note that there are no vending machines or shops in the immediate vicinity of VILLA MINAWA.

We recommend bringing beverages from outside the island, or purchasing them at the ferry terminal shop or nearby stores at the port.

Each room is equipped with a water dispenser. A wine cellar is also available in the villa, featuring a curated selection of wines chosen by Yamani,led by Mr. Ohashi, a holder of the prestigious Master of Wine title.

Any wine or beverages opened during your stay will be settled at check-out.

The first night is a time to surrender your body to the island’s atmosphere.

From the second night, the quietness and rhythm of Oshima gradually become your own.

we recommend staying two nights or more.

Reflecting on a Sacred Island, and Looking Toward the Future

In July 2017, the restricted island of Okinoshima in Munakata City—
“The Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites in the Munakata Region”—was inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

On the way to VILLA MINAWA, you will pass Munakata Taisha Nakatsumiya, one of the associated heritage sites.
Said to be the birthplace of the Tanabata legend, this shrine enshrines Tagitsuhime-no-Mikoto, the second of the three Munakata goddesses.

On Oshima, there is also the Okitsumiya Worship Site, a place where visitors may pray toward Okinoshima— an island forbidden to the general public.Only twice a year, during sacred rituals, are the doors of the shrine opened, allowing a distant view of Okinoshima beyond the sea.

Oshima is an island that has long lived in the presence of the divine.
Once home to more than 2,000 people, its population has now declined to around 500.

At this pace, it may be halved within ten years, and reduced to about 100 in twenty-five. In many ways, Oshima reflects the challenges facing a depopulating Japan.

We believe the future of Oshima will not be shaped by its residents alone,
but will be renewed through once-in-a-lifetime encounters with those who visit.
