From familiar mushrooms such as nameko to rare varieties you may have never seen before, the forests around Nozawa Onsen are home to an incredible range of wild mushrooms.

What makes this experience especially unique is that mushroom foraging is available every day during the season.

Your guide will be Akihiko-san, a local mushroom foraging expert, who knows the forests of Nozawa Onsen inside and out.

As you walk through the deep forest, he will show you how to identify different mushrooms, where to look for them, and how to enjoy foraging safely. Along the way, you will also learn more about the forests, nature, and local way of life in Nozawa Onsen.

After the foraging experience, you can enjoy the mushrooms you collected fresh from the forest.

For the full experience, we highly recommend joining us for Akihiko-san’s special mushroom hot pot, prepared using freshly harvested mushrooms.

Afternoon Tour | 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Who Can Join

The experience is available for guests of elementary-school age and above.

Preschool-aged children may also participate in mushroom picking, but the regular participation fee will apply.

For safety, we ask that one adult accompany each preschool-aged child.

Access & Transportation

The mushroom foraging area is reached by car.

If you are arriving by your own vehicle, we will either meet at Nozawa Onsen Lodge and travel together or arrange to meet at a parking area near the forest.

For guests using public transportation, Akihiko-san may be able to provide transportation by car depending on the circumstances and availability.

We will arrange the most suitable option depending on the situation and contact you with the details once your booking is confirmed.

What to Bring

Please bring:

• Long-sleeved clothing

• Long pants

• Sneakers or comfortable walking shoes

• Rubber boots on rainy days

• Smartphone or camera
