Here is where you begin.
"Pioneering, for everyone." With that idea, we at Takeshita Farm built a new kind of place to stay: taku. A steep triangular roof that follows the line of the roadside trees. A space shaped like a path through a forest. An off-grid system that does not depend on fossil fuels. A building where nature and technology meet. Whatever you are about to start, big or small, taku is here to back you up. We hope this becomes the place where something of yours begins.
What is FARM VILLA taku?
FARM VILLA taku is a private villa for one group per day, standing in the pastures of Takeshita Farm in Nakashibetsu, eastern Hokkaido. It is about a 20-minute drive from Nemuro-Nakashibetsu Airport and about 20 minutes from the town center. There are no other buildings around. What you hear is the wind, and the cows in the morning and evening.
We are dairy farmers, and we built it ourselves. Nobody brings you meals. Once you have the key, the time is yours.
Who it is for, and who it is not for
A good fit if you
are a group of 2 to 4 who want two quiet nights and nothing on the schedule
are a family or group of 6 to 8 who want to cook and eat under one roof
enjoy shopping for local ingredients and cooking them yourself
need a base for driving to Shiretoko, Lake Mashu, and the Notsuke Peninsula
Not a good fit if you
want dinner or breakfast served (we do not provide meals)
want a hot spring, a restaurant, or a shop inside the property
are traveling with a pet (for allergy reasons, pets cannot stay)
plan to travel without a car (there is no public transport to the villa)
need a step-free building (the villa is not barrier-free)
The building and the rooms
About 200 square meters. The guest building has two bedrooms, each with two semi-double beds and its own bathroom and toilet.
A lounge with a wood-burning stove, a long table by the big window, and a fully equipped guest kitchen.
Free Wi-Fi and free parking. The whole building is non-smoking.
Tableware and a chair for small children are available on request.
The boardwalk from the entrance (main building) to the villa has some steps. There are no steps inside, but the bathrooms are not barrier-free; if you use a wheelchair or have difficulty walking, please ask us before booking.
The building received a 2024 Good Design Award (architecture).

Meals
No breakfast or dinner is served. The kitchen has cookware, tableware, basic seasonings, and rice, so you can cook with what you bring.
As welcome food we prepare Takeshita Farm cheese (mozzarella and maribo), LETTER SOUP, Nakashibetsu milk, Hokkaido butter, and a loaf of naturally leavened bread baked with whey from our farm. It is the first plate of your stay, not a breakfast service.
For dinner, "taku's Farm Meal Kit" (paid, reserve in advance) comes with prepped ingredients and a recipe. Choose from Nakashibetsu milky-pork shabu-shabu, raclette with our farm cheese, and more.
If you wish, we can arrange a chef to cook dinner at the villa (depends on the date and group size; please ask when you book).
The nearest supermarket is in town, about 20 minutes by car. We recommend shopping before you arrive.
Check-in and check-out
Check-in 15:00 to 17:00. Check-out 10:00.
Arrival between 19:00 and 22:00 is a late check-in (5,000 yen, paid on site). We cannot accept check-in after 22:00.
There are almost no streetlights around the villa. In winter the sun sets early and road conditions change, so please arrive in daylight.
Seasons
Spring to autumn: green pastures and a sky full of stars at night.
Autumn and winter: the wood stove season. We also offer autumn and winter plans with round-trip airport transfer. On a snowy morning, the pasture is almost silent.
How a stay usually goes
There is no program. For reference, here is a typical two-night stay.
Day 1. Arrive after 15:00 and sit by the lounge window first. Nothing in front of you but pasture. Walk along the edge of the field before dark, then cook dinner with what you bought in town. In autumn and winter, light the wood stove and cut some farm cheese.
Day 2. You wake to the cows. Breakfast is the welcome bread, cheese, and milk. Drive to Shiretoko, Lake Mashu, or the Notsuke Peninsula, or go nowhere, read, and nap. Dinner from the farm meal kit, one pot on the stove.
Day 3. Check out at 10:00. The airport is 20 minutes away, so the morning is unhurried.
Seasonal plans are available: a raclette evening with cheese delivered after your stay (September to December), airport pickup with a silent drive (autumn and winter), cheese delivered to your home when you book 90 days ahead, and a private-villa plan for corporate retreats. See "Plans" for details.

Capacity
The villa is rented to one group per day. To enjoy the space and the quiet, we recommend 2 to 4 guests, and the rate is the same for 1 to 4 guests. For parties of 5 or more guests using bedding, we prepare extra beds according to the number of guests, at JPY 7,700 (tax included) per bed, per night. The maximum occupancy is 8 guests. Preschool children (before entering elementary school) stay free when sharing a bed with an adult without extra bedding. This includes six-year-olds who have not yet entered elementary school. Children in elementary school or above are charged, including six-year-olds already attending elementary school. Please tell us each child’s age, school status, and whether they need bedding when you book.
How many guests can stay? Does the rate depend on the number of guests?
The villa hosts one group per day. To slowly enjoy the space and the quiet, we recommend 2 to 4 guests. The rate is for the whole villa and does not change from 1 to 4 guests. For 5 guests or more using bedding, each extra bed is JPY 7,700 (tax included) per night. Seasonal rates apply in peak periods such as August. The maximum occupancy is 8 guests.
Should we stay one night or two?
One-night stays are available. Considering the travel time to Nakashibetsu and the time to slowly enjoy the grassland scenery, the wood stove, and the food, we recommend staying two nights or more. Extended-stay rates apply to stays of two nights or more. If you book Friday and Saturday, we also recommend adding Sunday night for a three-night stay - it lets the weekend end without hurry.
When do cancellation fees apply?
Our cancellation policy is as follows: 14 days before: 20% 7 days before: 50% 3 days before: 80% The day before: 100% Same day: 100% No-show: 100% (if no contact is received)
What payment methods are available?
For regular bookings, payment is by advance online payment only. For corporate training camps and similar group stays, please contact us about on-site card payment or invoice payment. We accept VISA, MasterCard, JCB, American Express, and DISCOVER. From stays on or after April 1, 2026, the Hokkaido accommodation tax applies. The amount depends on the number of guests and nights. Please pay the tax in cash on site on the day of your stay.
Late check-in
Check-in is normally between 15:00 and 17:00. If your travel plans delay your arrival, a late check-in fee applies (paid on site): 19:00-22:00: 5,000 yen (tax included) We are unable to accept check-in after 22:00. Thank you for your understanding.
Is internet access available?
Yes. Free Wi-Fi is available (STARLINK).
Are meals included?
We do not serve meals. Instead, the villa has a kitchen with cookware, tableware, and basic seasonings. For each stay, we prepare one set of welcome food for guests to enjoy during their stay: Takeshita Farm cheese (one pack each of Mozzarella and Maribo), four packs of LETTER SOUP, a bottle of Nakashibetsu milk, Hokkaido butter, and a loaf of naturally leavened bread made with whey from the farm. The welcome food is not a complimentary breakfast service. Separately from the welcome food, you can order taku's Farm Meal Kit (prepped ingredients and sauces with a recipe card) as a paid dinner option when you book.
Can we cook? Are seasonings provided?
The kitchen is stocked with basic cookware and tableware, free to use. (As a full range is provided, we ask that you refrain from bringing your own cookware or kitchen items.) We also keep rice and seasonings on hand: Seasonings (salt, sugar, soy sauce, mirin, cooking sake, vinegar, olive oil, rice oil, sesame oil, pepper, ichimi and shichimi chili pepper, mayonnaise, chuno sauce), rice (about 1.5 kg)
Do you have chairs and tableware for children?
We have tableware and other items for small children. High chairs, diaper bins, and similar items are not always set up in the villa, so please let us know your needs when you book.
Can we buy alcohol on site?
We offer in-villa sales of Japanese wines selected by a wine sommelier and local craft beer (Brasserie Knot), among others. You are also welcome to bring your own drinks.
Are there convenience stores or supermarkets nearby?
The nearest shops are about a 20-minute drive away. We recommend finishing your shopping before arriving at the villa.
Is driving and shopping manageable in autumn and winter?
Supermarkets and restaurants in central Nakashibetsu are about a 20-minute drive away. In winter, travel times vary with weather and road conditions, so please shop before arrival and allow extra time for the drive. Check-in is 15:00-17:00. Days are short in winter, so arriving in daylight is safest.
Can we use the wood stove?
Yes. There is a wood stove in the glass-walled lounge, where you can relax watching the fire. Firewood is provided; please light and tend the fire yourself. For safety, no fire other than the wood stove may be used (no charcoal BBQ, bonfires, fireworks, or candles).
Is there anywhere to smoke?
We are sorry, but the entire building and grounds are non-smoking, out of consideration for wildlife and to prevent wildfires. (As an allergy-free villa, we also ask that you refrain from using vaporized tobacco products indoors.)
Can we have a BBQ, fireworks, or other open flames?
We are very sorry, but open flames are prohibited in all areas inside and outside the villa (charcoal BBQ, bonfires, candles, fireworks, smoking, etc. - the wood stove is the exception). Please also refrain from bringing your own BBQ sets or grills.
Can pets stay with us?
We are very sorry, but pets cannot stay at the villa. There are pet hotels in Nakashibetsu town (such as Wag and Pet Shop Chiwawan), so please consider using them.
Can we send luggage in advance?
Yes. Please contact us and we will let you know the shipping address and details. Feel free to get in touch.
How do we get there? Is pick-up available?
Pick-up may be available on request. If you wish, please feel free to ask after booking. Public transport is limited, so we recommend coming by car (your own or a rental). Approximate times from airports: - Nemuro-Nakashibetsu Airport: about 20 minutes by car. About 1 hour 40 minutes from Haneda (Tokyo), and about 1 hour from New Chitose (Sapporo), with around 3 flights a day. Rental car counters are at the airport. - Kushiro Airport: about 2 hours by car. - Memanbetsu Airport: about 2 hours 10 minutes by car. Free parking for 5 cars is available; a microbus can also park. There are few streetlights and the road is hard to find after dark, so we recommend arriving in daylight. For a detailed map, please see the Access page.
Can we extend check-out (late check-out)?
Check-out is at 10:00. Because we set aside time to carefully prepare the villa after each one-group stay, we do not offer free extensions. Only when the next booking and our cleaning schedule allow, a late check-out until 15:00 (33,000 yen, tax included) may be available. If you wish, please contact us in advance via our official LINE or by phone.
