“Traveling Crafts”: Making Ganshina from Getto
BUNAGAYA × Straw Weaving Workshop | A Weaving Retreat Plan to Immerse Yourself in Nature and Handicrafts
Kijoka-sho, nestled in the Yanbaru Forest of Okinawa.
This special lodging package, designed to “reconnect you with nature,” combines a stay at “BUNAGAYA”—a guesthouse created by renovating the school building—with a grass weaving workshop organized by Yanbaru Kogei-ten.
■ Time Spent Connecting with Plants and Handicrafts
In the grass weaving workshop, you’ll extract fibers from plants that grow wild in the local area and
use your fingertips to experience the processes of “weaving,” “twisting,” and “shaping.”
The materials are the grasses and leaves harvested that very day—with their natural scents, textures, and colors.
It’s a moment to feel the life of nature right at your fingertips.
Here, you’ll find
“a moment to focus on just one thing right in front of you”—something you rarely get to experience in your busy daily life.

■ For lodging, stay at “BUNAGAYA,” a inn where spirits dwell.
After the straw weaving workshop, spend the night at “BUNAGAYA,” a guesthouse themed around “fables.”
Surrounded by the nostalgic atmosphere of the school building, the quiet forest, and the presence of “Bunagaya”—a spirit passed down through the ages in Ogimi Village—spend a night that will leave you feeling lighthearted.
The next morning, wake up to the light filtering through the forest and return to your daily life with a gentle, relaxed heart.

Information About Amenities
A diverse array of living creatures coexists in the Yanbaru Forest, and we strive to operate our facility with consideration for this rich natural environment. For this reason, as a general rule, we ask that guests bring their own disposable amenities, such as toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and razors. If you absolutely need these items, please insert 100 yen into the payment box located by the sink and feel free to use them. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation in our efforts to preserve the environment.
Information About Parking
There are several parking spaces on the premises, but because the grounds are large, the distance to the building may vary depending on where you park. We ask that guests staying overnight use the parking lot in front of the gymnasium to make it easier to unload and move your luggage.
Information About Dinner
On the grounds of Kijoka Sho School, there is a restaurant called “Fukamidori” that serves dishes made with ingredients from the Yanbaru region. In addition, ・BBQ sets ・Appetizer platters and other options are available. Advance reservations are required for all of these, so if you’d like to order any of these items, please select them from the options when making your reservation. There are also several restaurants in the surrounding area. There aren’t many within the village itself, but there are a few scattered about a 15-minute drive away. Please refer to the Google Map below. ▼ Map of Nearby Restaurants https://maps.app.goo.gl/m7cSDsdbCC3PCwoJ9 If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
