CHIBA・KISARAZU-SHI

A Private Seaside Retreat in a Port Town – Limited to One Group Per Day

Just 50 minutes by car from central Tokyo, and 30 minutes from Haneda Airport,
Shimagumi House is a small, single-story private rental home nestled beside the historic port of Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture.

Right outside your window, you’ll see large cargo boats gently passing through the harbor—a scene that has remained unchanged for decades.
This port once served as a key link between Kisarazu and Edo (present-day Tokyo), and it's said that artists like Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige once crossed these same waters.
There’s a quiet magic in this place—a kind of everyday tranquility that feels like a hidden escape.

△ As the sun sets, ships on the water create gentle silhouettes.

Shimagumi House opened in July 2024, after being thoughtfully renovated from what was once a small real estate office.

A Space of Gentle Transitions—Bridging the Old and the New

After the previous tenant—a real estate agency—moved out, this small wooden house sat unused for several years.
The current owner, captivated by its charm, began renovating it with the help of local friends and craftspeople.

Preserving what could be reused, and updating materials that guests would touch with softer, more natural finishes, the house retains the feel of its original era.
A large bow window opens up to a full view of the harbor, offering a sense of openness and light.
Inside, the house is a flat, step-free 30㎡ one-room layout—safe and accessible for both young children and elderly guests.

△ Solid wood door warmly welcomes guests at the entrance.
△ The open-plan room allows families to stay connected while relaxing in comfort.
△ Bedding is laid flat on the floor—safe and secure for both children and adults.
△ The harbor view outside the window changes with the light, but never loses its calm.
△ Enjoy full privacy in a stand-alone house, with spacious interiors and parking.
△ Soft, warm lighting fills the space with gentle shadows.
△ A shelf of wooden toys and picture books—a treasure chest for little ones.

Take a Deep Breath—Check-in Begins at 4:00 PM

Open the front door, and you’ll be greeted by soft, natural light.

△ The warm glow of the entrance lighting invites you into a gentle evening.

Set down your bags, take a seat on the zabuton floor cushions, and settle in.
Children will likely dash straight to the large trampoline set up just for little guests.

△ A dedicated trampoline for children to jump and laugh freely.

Once things have calmed down, pull open the curtains and blinds of the large window.
Before you lies the peaceful harbor, with the sun slowly setting beyond the famous Nakano Island Bridge.

△ A front-row seat to the sunset beyond the red arched bridge.

This is truly a “special seat for watching the sunset.”

A Space That Adds Gentle Breathing Room to Your Family Journey

While children play freely,
parents can simply gaze up at the sky in peace.

Perhaps that, in itself, is the greatest luxury of all.

Of course, it’s important that children have fun while traveling.
But perhaps it’s even more important that parents can truly rest, too.

Shimagumi House was created with this realization at heart.
We hope your time here offers a moment to simply breathe,
and becomes a gentle, lasting memory for you and your family.
