🧘‍♂️ Concept

for Sauna ── The Ideal Sauna Experience Is Crafted by the Environment

The "for Sauna" concept proposed by Sauna-in is a brand philosophy that reimagines the sauna not merely as a facility, but as an immersive "experience" integrated with the space and the natural environment.

The airflow, the textures of materials, the contrast of light and shadow, the ambient sounds, and the scent of wood and wood fires—every single element is meticulously redesigned "for the sake of the sauna" to pursue a deeper state of relaxation. Based on this philosophy, we thoughtfully design the intersection of nature, people, space, and consciousness, perfecting our signature approach: "Nature for Sauna."

"Sauna-in Niigata Myoko Kogen" is the ultimate embodiment of this philosophy. By renovating a former hotel set upon a vast 8,000-square-meter property, we provide an experience where the sauna and nature seamlessly blend within the forests at the foot of Mount Myoko, right by the Akakura Kanko Resort ski area. Step away from the urban bustle and surrender yourself to the silence of the snow and the forest. Open your five senses and quietly rediscover your true self. The ultimate "Nature for Sauna" experience, exclusive to Myoko, awaits you here.

✨ Features & Concept Details

At Sauna-in Niigata Myoko Kogen, we have designed every detail of the space, facilities, and guest experience with absolute precision.

Warm your body and mind from the core with the soft heat generated by wood-burning stoves, followed by a refreshing plunge into the cold water bath. The pristine air of the mountain ranges and the tranquility of the forest allow you to release daily stress and reclaim your vitality for tomorrow.

1. A Three-Wing Sauna Retreat

  • The Lodging Wings (7 Rooms Total) Across our two lodging wings, we offer 7 unique guest rooms designed to accommodate various styles of stay, from solo travelers to large groups. All rooms feature a split-level maisonette (loft) layout, ranging from compact spaces for 2 guests to expansive suites that comfortably sleep up to 12 guests (featuring 11 beds total, including 2 sofa beds in the living area). Overlooking the snow and forest, the minimalist spaces are styled in calming tones of white and gray, with each room offering a distinct personality to deepen the afterglow of your sauna experience. Furthermore, the two exclusive suites in the Eternity Wing are equipped with spacious private in-room saunas. By making our container saunas available for both day use and overnight stays, we cater to a diverse range of travel styles, including "sauna-only trips," "ski + sauna holidays," and "remote work + long-term stays."

  • Reception, Restaurant & Bar Wing (Opening Date TBD) We plan to open a restaurant and bar counter where guests can enjoy dishes showcasing fresh Myoko and Niigata ingredients, paired with local Japanese sake and natural wines, significantly elevating the "after-sauna" dining experience. We aim to create a space where guests can discover sake from local breweries and experience the unique food preservation culture of Japan's snow country.

2. A Sauna Experience Embraced by Snow and Forest

Winter in Myoko Kogen is a magical season filled with heavy snowfall and serene, silent forests. Our facility utilizes Myoko's unique climate and terrain to offer a sauna experience that shifts beautifully with the seasons:

  • Winter: Outdoor air baths surrounded by snow, and quiet "totonoi" moments gazing out over the pristine white winter wonderland.

  • Spring: The refreshing sound of melting snow streams mixed with the fragrant scent of new spring buds.

  • Summer: A cooling highland breeze combined with a tranquil retreat enveloped in deep forest greenery.

  • Autumn: A crisp, refreshing breeze to cool down while taking in the vibrant autumn foliage painting the mountainsides. The transition of the four seasons becomes a core part of the sauna experience, ensuring that every visit offers a brand-new sense of renewal.

3. Container Saunas: Where the Forest and Heat Become One

Our container saunas, available for day use, feature wood-burning stoves that produce a soft, embracing heat. They are designed with large panoramic windows that look directly out onto the Myoko forest. The heat and the scenery slowly melt together, making you feel completely at one with nature. Directly in front of the sauna sits a spacious cold water plunge pool. This creates a crisp contrast of hot and cold, delivering a profound sense of relief and comfort. For overnight guests seeking a more private experience, each room is also equipped with its own dedicated bathtub supplied with natural fresh spring water.

4. Harmonizing Design and Functionality

The design and architectural planning were executed utilizing the extensive expertise of NINE Co., Ltd., a firm renowned for creating numerous premium sauna, glamping, and hotel properties. The entire estate is unified under a minimalist yet comforting aesthetic that reflects our "Zen Sauna" worldview.

  • Minimalist interiors utilizing negative space, complemented by a delicate, intentional lighting plan.

  • Material selections centered around natural textures, including wood, stone, and premium fabrics.

  • Floor planning tailored precisely around post-sauna movement, ensuring easy handling of wet gear and clothing changes. By merging these elements, we achieve a beautiful balance of practical functionality for long-term stays and a striking aesthetic that resonates with the senses.
