Hospitality with Iida Wagashi and Matcha
Upon your arrival, we will welcome you with matcha and traditional Japanese sweets from Iida, served in the café on the first floor. Please take a moment to step away from the busyness of your journey and enjoy the flavors and culture of this region.
Tasting local wagashi is a way of experiencing the culture of the area itself. We hope you will enjoy the refined sweets nurtured by Iida’s natural environment, together with the aroma of freshly prepared matcha, and feel the gentle rhythm of life that flows through this city.
For guests who wish, we also offer a live matcha preparation experience (otemae), where the tea is prepared right in front of you. The graceful movements and atmosphere of the tea ceremony may become a memorable part of your journey. (Please note that this service may not always be available depending on the date and time.)
An Experience of Seasons and Culture
What remains in one’s travel memories is not only beautiful scenery.
Meeting local people, working with your hands, and engaging with the culture—these moments also become meaningful memories that stay in the heart long after the journey ends.
At Tokinoma, under the theme of “connecting culture,” we offer opportunities to experience the traditions and craftsmanship that have been passed down in this region.
Arranging seasonal flowers. Expressing the beauty of the four seasons through Japanese sweets. Tying thoughts and wishes into mizuhiki cords.
Within these experiences lives the Japanese spirit of cherishing the seasons and holding consideration for others.
At present, we offer mizuhiki workshops and Japanese confectionery (wagashi) making experiences. Through encounters with local artisans and instructors, we hope you will discover the charm of Iida’s culture and way of life.
Looking ahead, we aim to continue introducing a variety of cultural experiences, skills, and the heartfelt traditions that live on in this region.
Travel is not only about seeing a place—it is about talking with local people, using your hands, and engaging with culture. These moments can become something truly special that remains in your heart long after your journey has ended.
We invite you to enjoy encounters with the culture of this region while experiencing the changing seasons.

Dinner
As evening approaches and the sun begins to set, we invite you to explore the night scene of Iida.
Around the inn, you will find a variety of dining establishments where you can enjoy local ingredients, as well as small, intimate restaurants where conversations with the owners are part of the charm. Encounters with unique flavors and people—possible only when traveling—are one of the great pleasures of this town.
Tokinoma does not provide dinner service; however, we are happy to introduce recommended restaurants with whom we have connections and assist with reservations upon request. You are also welcome to bring your own food and drinks and enjoy a relaxed evening at the inn. As we host only one group per day, you may spend your night freely and at your own pace, without concern for others.
Semi-Self Service Steamer Breakfast Included
The following morning, please wake up at your leisure and enjoy a relaxed start to the day.
We provide a simple breakfast featuring rice balls warmed in a bamboo steamer, miso soup, pickles, and locally sourced seasonal fruit. While not extravagant, it is a meal designed to let you appreciate the natural flavors and warmth of the ingredients.
The moment you lift the lid of the steamer, the gentle rise of steam and the aroma of freshly cooked rice will fill the air, evoking a sense of nostalgia and calm.
A morning spent while traveling is not only a time for departure, but also a moment to reflect on the time you have spent in a place.
We hope you will take this opportunity to reflect on Iida’s landscape, its people, and the changing seasons, and enjoy a peaceful and fulfilling morning.

Our Water
At Tokinoma, we provide natural spring water from Sarukura no Izumi in Iida City, selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Famous Waters.”
Long cherished by local residents, Sarukura no Izumi is a pure spring water nurtured by the rich nature of the Southern Alps. Its smooth mouthfeel and clean, refined taste are among the unique blessings of this region.
To help you enjoy your stay, the water is prepared in the refrigerator for drinking. Please feel free to enjoy it upon arrival, in the morning, or at any time during your stay.
You are also welcome to take it with you when you go out for the day. We hope you will enjoy this gift from Iida’s natural environment throughout your time here.
