Even doing nothing becomes part of the journey. A modern hideaway nestled in a traditional Okinawan village.
Imadomari, a small village in Nakijin in northern Okinawa.
Surrounded by untouched beaches and forests, and dotted with traditional Okinawan homes, life here moves at a slower, gentler pace.

In a quiet corner of the village, sheltered by Fukugi trees, Hizuki quietly welcomes its guests.
The Story Behind the Name
The name Hizuki carries the idea of darkness reaching its deepest point before giving way to light.
Just as a long winter gently gives way to spring, we hope your time here will slowly restore both body and mind, and perhaps become a meaningful turning point in your life.
For those wishing to step away from the rush of everyday life and unwind from the weariness of the city, we hope Hizuki can be a quiet place to return to yourself.
Quiet Architectural Beauty, Blending into the Nature of Yanbaru
“We wanted to create a place where, surrounded by Fukugi trees, both body and mind could find rest.”
Hizuki is an intimate retreat run by a husband-and-wife team, welcoming just two groups of guests each day. We made the decision to leave our corporate careers and move here, and it felt almost as though fate had led us to this special place.
It was around 2020 that we entrusted our vision to architect Masatsugu Yamamoto.
“We wanted guests to feel a sense of escape from the everyday, even before they arrive.”
“We wanted to create two distinct spaces—one Japanese-inspired and one Western-inspired—each offering its own way to experience a stay at Hizuki.”
“And in the private courtyard, we wanted guests to experience the beauty and vitality of Okinawa’s plants and flowers, and the ever-changing play of light throughout the day.”
I still remember the excitement we felt as these ideas gradually began to take shape.
And in July 2025, Hizuki finally came to life here.
The grand entrance gate marks the moment you leave the everyday behind and step into another world.
Upstairs in the Japanese-style room, the bathroom looks out over the surrounding Fukugi trees, offering a view of the greenery almost as if seen from a bird’s-eye view.
“A Garden of Light and Stillness.”A private courtyard designed to gently awaken the senses and linger in your memory.
The ever-changing play of light and shadow, the breeze and birdsong, the soft patter of rain, and the scents of seasonal flowers and greenery…
This garden is a private sanctuary for our guests—a place to experience the subtle presence of nature through all five senses.
Stay awhile, travel slowly.
Northern Okinawa is home to many well-known sights, and exploring them is certainly a wonderful way to travel.
But there is another way we would like to invite you to experience Okinawa: slow down, stay a little longer, and simply enjoy the time spent here.
Walk through a village sheltered by Fukugi trees. Feel the changing light and breeze, and surrender yourself to the stillness of this place.
It is often in these quiet moments that you discover an Okinawa that stays with you long after your journey ends.
We hope your time at Hizuki allows you to discover the simple pleasure of traveling without rushing.
Wake a little earlier and take a morning walk through the village, pausing to notice the flowers blooming in the gardens of traditional Okinawan homes.
Exchange a morning greeting with the local elders, and listen to the calls of birds and insects that mark the changing seasons.
Spend time by the nearby sea, watching for sea turtles or simply gazing at the silhouettes of distant islands.

At night, beneath a sky filled with stars, reflect on the day with someone special and lose yourselves in the kind of conversations that everyday life rarely leaves time for.
“Step gently into the rhythm of Okinawan life.”
We hope that the time you spend living slowly at Hizuki will remain with you, even long after your journey has come to an end.
