Fascinated by the ocean, soft sand, and a certain beach in Onna Village, Okinawa Prefecture, beyond the green tunnel, we decided in December 2018 to build a wood house hotel in this area.
Over the next four years, we took on the challenge of creating the entire process by the owner's own hands, from clearing the wilderness, to land development, foundation construction, building construction, and interior decoration.
The concept is Hawaii. Imagining a residence that could be found on the island of Kauai, we infused Hawaiian essence throughout, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of the region. With a climate and flora closely resembling Hawaii, this building seamlessly blends into Okinawa, offering a harmonious connection to both the weather and nature of Hawaii.
The garden surrounding the house is filled with lush greens that have thrived during the extended construction period. Being enveloped by plants and simply listening to the sound of leaves rustling in the wind can bring a soothing sense of relaxation to both the mind and body.
The Guava Shack is equipped with all the essentials for daily living, including a kitchen and a washing machine. We recommend taking the time to unwind here.
Indulge in slow mornings, practicing yoga on the garden deck bathed in morning sunlight, reading a book in the hanging chair on the lanai (Hawaiian for balcony), or sourcing ingredients from the local farmers' market to cook and enjoy a meal with a beer in hand.
Escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and savor the luxury of relaxing, away from the ordinary。
We've prepared a special original amenity with a warm welcome for our guests
- The Guava Shack Original Bamboo Toothbrush
An eco-friendly alternative that's kind to the Earth and the environment – our organic bamboo toothbrush, designed for sustainable use rather than disposable.
Our original amenity features art motifs inspired by guava – the fruit, the flower, and the leaves. The talented artist behind this artwork is ACO, who operates the brand WAVEY. She also hand-painted The Guava Shack's wall art. Please look for this distinctive wall art as a landmark when you visit.
