Hello
We are Temari inn "Yukikai", an inn that welcomes only one group per day, located in the beautiful Bikan Historical Quarter of Kurashiki.
Our inn is built around the concept of reconnecting with the beauty and comfort of handcrafted items.
We offer two types of accommodations: “Yukikai,” a cozy space for up to four guests, and “Oitoma,” a two-story private house that can accommodate up to nine guests.
“Yukikai” is a cozy space for up to four guests, though it’s especially recommended for groups of two to three.
“Oitoma” is a two-story private house that can accommodate up to nine guests, available for exclusive rental.
On this page, we'd like to share a bit about the spirit of Kurashiki—the town where our inn is located—and the concept behind our lodging.
Details about “Oitoma” are available on a separate page, which you can view at the following link:

It may be a bit of a longer read, but we hope you'll take the time to enjoy it.
An inn where you can connect with the warmth of handcrafted items.
The photo features kohiki (white slip-glazed) pottery used at our inn—works by Takashi Sogo, a ceramic artist based in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture.
From dishes and furniture to lampshades, each item is crafted by hand with care.
Our producer, Inukai, visits various artisans around , trying out their creations firsthand and selecting the pieces that truly resonate with us to feature in the inn.
That’s why, by staying at our inn for a night, we hope you’ll have the opportunity to truly experience and discover the genuine beauty of these items through daily use.
In Kurashiki, a town that became the heart of the Mingei (folk craft) movement.
Kurashiki, a town that became the heart of the Mingei (folk craft) movement from the Taisho period to the early Showa era, has deep ties to craftsmanship.
The town's businessman, Magosaburo Ohara, was a close friend of Yanagi Soetsu and a strong supporter of the concept of "beauty in utility" that underpins Mingei philosophy.
Kurashiki is also home to Japan's second Mingei Museum, following Tokyo.
It is precisely because of Kurashiki’s rich connection to handcrafted goods that we founded “Kurashi no Yado Temari” in 2017, making it a meaningful place in this town's long tradition of craftsmanship.
"Yukikai" – A cozy little inn for one exclusive group per day
The building, originally a private residence, was renovated and opened as an inn in June 2018.
It is still a relatively new inn, now in its third year.
On the first floor of the building is Bikando, our lifestyle shop featuring carefully selected items that truly represent the best of Okayama and Kurashiki.
Your room is located upstairs, on the second floor of the same building.
As the original structure of the traditional Japanese house has been largely preserved, access to the room is via a slightly steep staircase typical of old homes, and the bathroom and other water facilities are located on the first floor.
We hope you will also enjoy the charm and character of the traditional architecture during your stay.
The window frames, glass panes, beams, and pillars in the room have been preserved from the original house and reused without being dismantled.
One of the most distinctive features of this room is the large lattice window on the second floor, which faces the scenic Bikan Historical Quarter.
From the window, you can watch people strolling through the streets of the Bikan Historical Quarter and enjoy the scenery as it changes with the passing hours.
We named this building Yukikai after the view it offers.
Simply gazing out at the townscape of the Bikan Historical Quarter, which has remained since the Edo period, allows you to experience a different flow of time from everyday life.
Check-in takes place in your room — and leave the travel tips to us.

As our inn is reserved for only one group per day, you’ll enjoy the exclusive use of the entire space and can check in comfortably in private.
After introducing the room, our local staff will be happy to assist you with dinner recommendations and suggestions for how to enjoy your time in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter.
Feel free to come without a fixed schedule. We’ll be happy to recommend activities based on how you’d like to spend your time in the Bikan Historical Quarter.
At our small inn, Temari inn ”Yukikai”, all of us on the staff look forward to welcoming you.

Facility Precautions
Is the property non-smoking?
The property is completely non-smoking. As the inn is located in the Bikan Historical Quarter, where many traditional buildings are closely situated, there are no designated smoking areas nearby. Guests who wish to smoke are kindly requested to use the public smoking area, which is approximately a 10-minute walk from the inn.
Is the property wheelchair accessible?
The inn is a renovated traditional Japanese house. Due to its original structure, including steep stairs and narrow hallways, the property is not barrier-free and is not wheelchair accessible.
Is there a television in the room?
No, there is no television in the inn. We have chosen not to install televisions so that our guests can step away from everyday life, take their time enjoying the items provided in the inn, and appreciate the changing scenery of the Bikan Historical Quarter.
Are there any meal plans available?
Yes, we offer an in-room dining plan served in unique Arita-yaki (Arita ware) jubako boxes. The meals are carefully prepared using seasonal ingredients by a Japanese restaurant in the Bikan Historical Quarter and delivered directly to your room. If you book a room-only plan, we would also be happy to recommend dining options in the Bikan Historical Quarter based on your preferences.
Can I store my luggage before check-in and after check-out?
Yes, luggage storage is available. There is a shop located on the ground floor of the property. Please ask the shop staff or the staff at the neighboring café for assistance. Staff are generally available from around 10:00 a.m. to approximately 6:30 p.m.
Is late check-out available?
Late check-out may be available depending on availability for the following day. If you wish to request a late check-out, please contact us at the time of booking. Please note that a late check-out fee of JPY 2,000 applies.
