BUNSHODO HOTEL is an archival hotel and café that connects people through the power of books.

In sleek minimalist design, you can enjoy books donated by fellow travelers and locals as well as enjoy book selections curated by local book store owners with our "Stay in a Book" plan.

"文照堂" (Bunshōdō) bookstore. When it came to building a hotel where this bookstore used to stand, we were captivated by its history as a place where people gathered to share ideas and thus BUNSHODO HOTEL was born.

Carrying on that tradition of the exchange of ideas and creation of community, you can enjoy your stay at BUNSHODO HOTEL even more with our plans.

Besides our "Stay in a Book" plan, you can connect with others via books donated to the hotel along with events put on the hotel.

When donating a book to BUNSHODO HOTEL, we will have you fill out a donation card in which you can write your profile as well as a message to the next person to pick up the book. What you want them to feel, what you want them to know about the book.

A classic interior with a feel for history

With the thought of an archive in mind, BUNSHODO HOTEL was created to age beautifully.

Behind the front desk, the beautiful concrete visuals of Fukuoka Art Museum are overlaid with tiles that were carefully baked one by one and made into the size of the Japanese paperback. In the guest rooms, you can find classic colors and a minimal timeless design.

With our guests in mind, we've implemented a digital check-in and smart lock system that makes checking in a smooth process.

On the first floor, you can enjoy coffee and breakfast at TIMEZ ESPRESSO BAR &, a café produced by the popular local espresso stand and gallery TAG STÅ.

With ingredients changing daily, TIMEZ prepares a sandwich and drink set that is sure to get your day started on the right foot.

And you can't pass up their popular handmade cookie sandwiches. Not overly sweet, melt-in-your-mouth cream is paired with two shortbread cookies that have just enough of a crunch. Flavors change daily so you are sure to find a favorite.
