What can you do in Tateshina?
The Tateshina area in Nagano Prefecture enjoys exceptionally favorable weather, with an 80% sunny-day rate. It is also home to abundant unspoiled nature, including the Kita-Yatsugatake Mountains, ski resorts, moss forests, numerous hiking trails, and Shingen’s Hidden Hot Springs. In spring, thanks to the high altitude, you can experience the essence of Japan by viewing the country’s latest-blooming cherry blossoms and skunk cabbages. In summer, with abundant water sources, you can cool off by trekking to waterfalls. In autumn, head out to take photos at autumn foliage spots like Lake Tateshina and the Yokoya Kannon Observation Deck. In winter, enjoy the deep, powdery snow through skiing, snowboarding, mountaineering, and snowshoe hiking, then warm up by soaking in a hot spring. There are also plenty of other hands-on activities, such as climbing Mount Yatsugatake, SUP and canoeing on Lake Tateshina, e-bike cycling, and moss observation. Visiting in different seasons brings new encounters and discoveries.

Features of Tateshina BASE Kitchen, Spa & Hotel
Tateshina BASE serves as an information hub for tourism in Tateshina and the Yatsugatake area.

To that end, the first floor houses the Tateshina Tourist Information Center, where you can find brochures and maps providing information on hotels, hot springs, restaurants, and sightseeing spots in Tateshina and the surrounding Megami-ko and Shirakaba-ko areas.

Additionally, the facility houses four dining options: the café and restaurant “APRON MARK,” the bakery “Octet_time,” the vegan burger spot “AIN SOPH.ripple Tateshina,” the soft-serve ice cream shop “Yatsugatake Soft,” and the wine shop “Michikake Wine Shop.” This allows for a highly flexible stay where you can choose dining options that suit your personal style.

Located on the first floor is a large public bath fed by the natural flow of Tateshina Onsen spring water, which you are free to use from check-in throughout your stay.

The second floor is the guest accommodation area, featuring five types of rooms. For families or groups of friends looking to create memories, we recommend the rooms with open-air baths. For outdoor-loving couples who want to fully enjoy sightseeing and hiking in Tateshina during the day, we recommend the double-bed rooms. For those traveling with children or who prefer tatami rooms, we recommend the Japanese-style rooms. For couples who want to relax on a sofa in their room, we recommend the Standard Twin or Twin with Shower rooms. It is also popular for solo guests seeking a workation—a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city to brainstorm new business ventures, generate ideas, or write in a quiet, serene environment.

At the Tateshina Onsen "Niwa-no-Yu" and "Futago-no-Yu," which feature a continuous flow of spring water, you can enjoy two different baths, with the men's and women's sections alternating daily.

Tateshina has long been cherished as a hot spring resort and is now a historic, renowned hot spring known as Shingen’s “hidden hot spring.” The water is a mildly acidic, high-temperature spring with strong antibacterial properties, effective for skin conditions and atopic dermatitis, and is also expected to promote beautiful skin. Its excellent heat retention keeps you warm all winter long. At Futago-no-Yu, alternating between the hot and lukewarm baths feels just like stepping into a sauna.

After check-in: 4:00 PM – 8:30 PM / 9:00 PM – 8:30 AM the following day

*Please refrain from using the baths between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM due to cleaning and gender-specific schedule changes.

*Due to cleaning, the baths will be closed from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM the following day. Guests staying multiple nights may use the baths starting at 12:00 PM.

We offer self-check-in and check-out to ensure a contactless experience and allow you to relax at your own pace.

We will send you an email with instructions for pre-check-in starting three days before your stay and continuing through the day of your arrival.

By entering your guest information in advance, you can simply scan a QR code on a tablet and sign your name on the day of arrival to complete check-in quickly and easily.

At check-out, all you need to do is return your room key to the KEY STATION, allowing you to depart early in the morning if you wish.

Regarding the Payment of the Accommodation Tax

Effective June 1, 2026, Nagano Prefecture will introduce an accommodation tax.

Accordingly, guests staying on or after June 1, 2026, will be required to pay the accommodation tax at check-in.

■ Effective Date: For stays on or after June 1, 2026

■ Tax Amount: 200 yen per person per night (*300 yen from June 1, 2029 onward)

■Eligibility: Stays costing 6,000 yen or more per night (excluding meal costs; tax-exclusive price)
