A forest hideaway, minutes from the sea.
— tsukimiru_ie —
Just a 14-minute drive from Amami Airport, "tsukimiru_ie (House that sees the moon )" is a newly built private retreat nestled at the narrowest point of Amami Ōshima. Surrounded by hills and away from the bustle of village life, the home’s warm cedarwood façade pays quiet tribute to the island’s traditional architecture.
The cedar-plank exterior pays homage to the traditional houses of Amami Oshima
A secret escape from the noise of the sea, where the wind drifts gently through the grasslands, soothing the soul.
Amami Oshima’s defining feature is its deep, ancient forests.
This location, which feels like the gateway to that forest, offers a perfect balance of distance between the sea and the town.
A three-minute walk away is the white sandy beach. On days with high waves, surfers gather here, but it is usually deserted. Bira Beach, with only one breakwater and no artificial seawalls, is an unforgettable gem of a beach with untouched nature. It will be an unforgettable memory.
Apart from this seawall, the closest beach to the villa remains a rare, unspoiled stretch of natural coast
Be enchanted by its beauty
A Minimal Yet Refined Retreat, in Harmony with Nature
At Tsuki Miru Ie, you won’t find lavish services or ornate furnishings. Instead, every detail is chosen for comfort—what you see, touch, and feel is thoughtfully curated to soothe your senses.
The house features a minimalist design, with a main room and a bedroom divided by the bathroom wall.
High-quality bed linen offers breathable comfort year-round
*This bedroom can be set up with beds for up to three guests.
The bed area is tucked away, but the bedroom has no door.
Uka’s Spicebush amenities provide a calming, woody aroma
IKEUCHI ORGANIC IMABARI towels wrap you in pure organic cotton
LIBECO daybed linens create a relaxing space.
*For groups of 4 or more, this space will be used as a sleeping space.
Slow Days, Gentle Rhythms
Throw open the wooden-framed windows and invite the gentle breeze of Amami into your space.
Wake to the sound of birdsong. Walk to the beach as the first light paints the sea.
Spend your afternoon on the shaded terrace, letting the breeze drift through.
Climb the nearby hill at dusk to catch the sunset stretching across island's hills.
You can enjoy beautiful sunsets all year round from the hilly farm roads.
As you listen to the sound of the rain shower, feel your body and mind gently unwind.
At night, the sky fills with stars. The moon rises quietly.
Fall asleep to the soft call of the Ryukyu scops owl.
Every moment here invites stillness and reflection—a retreat for grownups seeking rest, reconnection, and renewal.
As a Neighborhood Villa, we want to be aware of the surrounding area, its culture, and history.
Here you will find local festivals that are more like prayers to spirits that have been passed down rather than as a spectacle for tourists, unique customs shaped by the island's geographical features, and a deep coexistence with nature.
I would like to help you on a journey that satisfies your intellectual curiosity.
The autumn Kōso-sai festival combines the spirit of a harvest celebration with ancestral reverence, with each village passing down its own traditional songs and dances.
The virgin forest, home to endemic species, enhances the clarity and beauty of the water. In this land of “low population × vast nature,” it’s easy to lose track of time and rediscover wonder in the smallest moments of life.
Whether you come for surfing or simply to breathe deeply and reset, we hope your stay here becomes more than a trip—it becomes time well-spent as a part-time islander.
