Step inside and you will find a spacious, interconnected living, dining, and kitchen area.

The original wooden columns and beams, bearing the traces of more than 50 years of history, have been preserved and exposed wherever possible.

SOGEN is the personal vacation home of an architect, thoughtfully renovated and opened as a private guesthouse.

The lighting, chairs, tables, and shelving were specially designed by the architect for this house.

We hope you will enjoy experiencing these pieces firsthand, discovering the spaces and details as you settle in and make yourself at home.

The plastered walls take inspiration from the famous pampas grass fields of Sengokuhara.

The architect personally mixed pampas grass into the plaster and applied it by hand.

The slightly irregular, almost imperfect surface creates beautiful variations of light and shadow.
