The former 'doma' area is the most striking feature of this kominka.

In Japan, there is a famous saying, “Ichigo-Ichie” (一期一会) which means “once in a lifetime encounter.” This phrase originated in the tea ceremony, where the host shows sincere hospitality towards guests. It is said that the former owner of the house was fond of the phrase, thus the east side of the building was named Ichiean while the west side Ichigoan. It is also said that the owner loved gardening, creating a fairy-tale-like masterpiece that can be viewed from the windows of Ichiean. In the daytime, the garden is bright and vibrant, but as the darkness falls it gets illuminated turning into an otherworldly sight.

Ichigoan is located in the northern part of Ojika Island, in a peaceful Yanagi village, surrounded by vast rice fields and cow pastures.
